翻开高考真题卷，看到句子填空或改错题里冒出 in spite of 和 despite，手一抖就选错了——明明意思差不多，为啥老师说“这里必须用 despite”？
别急，今天咱们不讲语法书里的拗口定义，就用做饭打比方：in spite of 和 despite 就像盐和酱油，都能提味，但放错时机，整道菜就翻车了。
先搞清楚：它们到底是不是“双胞胎”？
很多人以为“in spite of = despite”，完全等价——错！
? 相同点：
- 都表示“尽管……还是……”，引导让步状语
- 后面都只能接名词、代词或动名词（不能接从句！）
? 关键差异：
- despite 更简洁、更正式，高考书面表达中出现频率更高
- in spite of 更口语化一点，字数多、节奏慢，在长句中容易显得累赘

翻了近5年全国卷+新高考卷的完形、语法填空和写作，发现三个高频陷阱??
# 1?? “后面跟了that从句？立刻排除 both！”
比如这道2023年浙江卷改编题：
> He succeeded, ______ his teacher had warned him not to rush.
A. despite?B. in spite of?C. although?D. because
很多同学一看“succeeded”和“warned”有转折感，秒选 A 或 B——掉坑了！
因为 despite/in spite of 后面根本不能接 that…，只有 although 可以。答案是 C。
# 2?? “名词前有没有 the/a？影响选谁！”
看这个句子：
> She passed the exam, ______ all the difficulties.
? Despite all the difficulties → 自然、简洁、阅卷老师爱看
?? In spite of all the difficulties → 不错，但略啰嗦，写作里建议优先 despite
再试一个：
> He smiled, ______ his pain.
? Despite his pain（??最常用）
? In spite of his pain（??没错，但少用）
? Despite of his pain（× 绝对错误！despite 没有 of！）

我自己的笨办法：三秒判断法
教过几百个高三学生，我总结了个土法子，现在还让学生默背：
> ? 看到“despite”，心里默念：“de-没得从句，spite只吃名词/动名”；
> ? 看到“in spite of”，提醒自己：“in spite of = despite + 多3个字，除非强调语气，否则别硬上”。
去年带的一个学生，模考总在“让步状语”丢分，我就让她每天抄5遍：
> Despite the heavy traffic, he arrived on time.
> In spite of the heavy traffic, he arrived on time.
> Although the traffic was heavy, he arrived on time.
坚持两周，她说：“老师，我现在看到‘though’‘although’‘despite’自动脑内分类了。”
最后一句真心话
其实高考考的从来不是“你会不会背短语”，而是你能不能在真实语境里稳准狠地用对它。
despite 和 in spite of 看似小事，但每一分都可能卡在“差一点”的临界线上。
别怕慢，先把“后面不能接从句”刻进肌肉记忆；
写作文时，先写 despite，写完再读一遍——如果顺口、不啰嗦，那就留着；
如果读着喘不过气，换成 although 或 though，反而更自然。
语言不是拼图，没有唯一标准答案；
